More than 360,000 jobs were lost in Australia over the space of a month as coronavirus-induced lockdowns affected workers around the nation.
Right-wing think tank, the Institute of Public Affairs, has released analysis of the Australian Bureau of Statistics payroll jobs figures.
NSW was the hardest hit with 214,000 jobs lost in the four weeks to July 17. Lockdown started on June 26.
IPA research fellow Cian Hussey said that was equivalent to more than 10,000 jobs a day.
"This means that every single job restored across the 2020/21 financial year was wiped out in just four weeks," he said.
Payroll jobs fell by a further 2.4 per cent in the fortnight to July 17, following a 0.2 per cent decline in the previous two weeks.
ABS head of labour statistics Bjorn Jarvis said every state and territory saw a fall in payroll jobs across the fortnight, but the falls were much larger in NSW, down 4.4 per cent, and neighbouring ACT, down 2.4 per cent.
