Joao Virginia is expected to undergo a medical with Sporting Lisbon today ahead of a loan move from Everton.
The young goalkeeper flew into the Portuguese capital yesterday and is now on course to complete his season-long switch in the next 24 hours.
It is understood that Sporting may also have negotiated an option to buy Virginia next summer, as part of the loan agreement.
Everton's plan was always to send Virginia on loan this season and with the arrival of Asmir Begovic as Jordan Pickford's understudy, the 21-year-old was given the green light to pursue a loan move.
Virginia came through the ranks at Benfica but is closing in on a move to city-rivals Sporting, who won the Portuguese league title last season.
Everton's under-23s goalkeeper Harry Tyrer will now occupy the third goalkeeper position in Rafa Benitez's squad, behind Pickford and Begovic.
