Joao Virginia in talks over new Everton contract as loan move nears

Everton are in talks with Joao Virginia over a new contract.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper impressed during his debut season at Goodison and is now to be rewarded with fresh terms.

But Virginia will spend the season away from Everton with a loan move to Championship side Reading expected to be finalised this week.

The Portuguese stopper joined the Blues last summer from Arsenal and signed a three year deal but his performances for Everton’s under-23s in their Premier League 2 title winning season mean he is in line for a new and improved deal.

Everton have reshuffled their goalkeeping options this summer with the arrival of Jonas Lossl.

The Danish keeper joins Jordan Pickford and Maarten Stekelenburg as senior stoppers at Marco Silva’s disposal.

Virginia’s development will be accelerated by a season spent on loan with Reading.
