Joao Carvalho's future uncertain as transfer talk swirls around Nottingham Forest ace

Nottingham Forest midfielder Joao Carvalho’s loan spell at Almeria has come to an end - and not in the way it was hoped.

The Spanish second division side had been targeting promotion this term, but fell some way short in the play-offs.

And that leaves the future of the Reds loanee up in the air.

Carvalho had been in the starting XI for the first leg of Almeria’s play-off semi-final against Girona last week.

He was hauled off at half-time, however, as head coach Rubi rang the changes with his team already 2-0 down. They went on to lose 3-0, giving them a mountain to climb for the second leg, on home turf, over the weekend.

On the move

Mathieu Peybernes looks set to sign for Real Zaragoza, amid reports Nottingham Forest had reignited their interest in the defender.

The Reds were first linked with the centre-back almost 12 months ago. And last week it was claimed they had reignited that interest - along with Championship rivals Swansea City, who were said to have had a £2m bid for the player turned down last summer.

Some French teams also reportedly had their eye on the 30-year-old.

But Peybernes now appears on course to make the move to Zaragoza, where he spent the second half of the recently-finished season on loan.

Championship return?

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Adlene Guedioura could be set for a return to the Championship.

The 35-year-old ex-Red is currently on the books of Qatari outfit Al-Gharafa, but a move back to English football could be on the cards.

Guedioura has been linked with recently-relegated Sheffield United, who will be playing in the second tier next season after finishing bottom of the Premier League.

The Blades have appointed former Watford and Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic as their new manager, with the 52-year-old to leave Al-Gharafa and officially take charge at Bramall Lane next month.

Transfer talk

West Ham United boss David Moyes has been backed to find some summer transfer gems, amid interest in Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall.

The Reds centre-back has caught the eye of a number of clubs after an impressive season in the Championship.

Burnley are long-term admirers and remain keen on the 24-year-old, while fellow top-flight sides Crystal Palace and the Hammers, as well as newly-promoted Norwich City are all understood to be interested.

Moyes has done some clever business in the market since taking charge at West Ham in December 2019.
