Joao Cancelo 'will not complete Bayern Munich transfer' and more Man City rumours

Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo will not join Bayern Munich permanently in the summer, according to reports.

Cancelo lost his place to Nathan Ake in the early stages of the season which led to the full-back seeking opportunities elsewhere. On deadline day in January, the Portugal international completed a half-season loan move to the Allianz Arena.

Initially, the 29-year-old struggled for regular minutes in Germany but, under Thomas Tuchel, Cancelo has seen his playing time increase. However, his spell in Bavaria looks set to come to an end.

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reports Bayern have rejected the opportunity to make Cancelo's switch permanent. While this opens the door to him returning to the Etihad Stadium, Plettenberg adds this could be unlikely.

City's defender reportedly has plenty of clubs interested in him, chief of which is Barcelona. However, Xavi's men cannot push for him further because of their current financial situation.

Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola has reportedly 'probed' about the possibility of Neymar moving to City. L’Equipe claims the City boss has contacted PSG's 31-year-old regarding his intentions beyond this campaign.

Neymar is understood to be unhappy in the French capital because of their repeated failure in the Champions League. Despite Guardiola's apparent enquiries, the media outlet is adamant City will not be pursuing a deal for the Brazilian this summer.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was recently asked if the Reds would be keen on signing Neymar but he neither confirmed nor denied their interest. Fellow Premier League clubs Chelsea and Newcastle are also thought to be keen on a move.
