Joao Cancelo outlines the different challenge Liverpool will pose to Man City compared to Chelsea

Manchester City will have played ‘three of the best teams in the world’ in the space of just a week when they face Liverpool this afternoon.

Pep Guardiola ’s side travel to Anfield for a hotly participated match that sees the last two Premier League title winners face each other for the first time this season.

Both teams go into the game knowing that they could go into the second international break top of the Premier League should they win.

The trip to Anfield is the last of three big games in just over a week for City, a 1-0 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge was followed by a 2-0 Champions League defeat away against a Lionel Messi inspired Paris-Saint Germain.

“We will have played against probably three of the best teams in the world,” Cancelo told the Daily Mail of the week that comes to an end against Liverpool.

“The defeat in Paris is part of the past and we are focused on Sunday.

“This is what you want as elite players so we need to be ready for the challenge.”

A second-half goal from Gabriel Jesus saw City come out on top at Stamford Bridge last weekend as two of the title favourites met, but Cancelo is expecting a different challenge from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“Chelsea are a more pragmatic team than Liverpool," he added.

"They defend with a lot of players behind the ball and don’t press as high.

“Liverpool take more risks but we are also a great team. We will see two of the best managers in the world, it really depends on how you perceive football.

“I personally like Pep Guardiola more. Not only because he is my coach, but for the football his teams play. I think wherever we go, our team always shows personality.”

Following the game against Liverpool, the international break means that City are not back in action until they host Burnley on Saturday, October 16.
