Joao Cancelo hails 'special' Cole Palmer and Phil Foden but names another huge Man City talent on the way

Manchester City star Joao Cancelo has warned the Premier League that the Blues have more stunning young players in the pipeline after seeing Cole Palmer bag his first Champions League goal.

Cancelo got the scoring underway in the 5-1 smashing of Bruges, courtesy of a superb pass from academy product Phil Foden, who the Portugal star says is the best youngster he has ever played with.

But Cancelo said that Palmer is also a special talent - and singled out James McAtee as another up-and-coming starlet who has impressed him when he has trained with the first team squad.

Palmer has captured headlines this week, by playing - and scoring a hat-trick - for the under-23 side just hours after going on as a substitute in City's 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.

And the 19-year-old Wythenshawe lad added to the drama by going on as a sub in Bruges, and scoring a trademark quality goal, showing excellent touch and an assured finish.

Cancelo was not surprised, saying that the youngster is outstanding: "Cole is definitely a big talent from our academy. We have other players but Cole is a special player. I really like him but I also like James McAtee, for example - he’s a great player.

“Phil Foden is the proof that Manchester City academy works. They are very promising and show that City are creating and developing great players that will bring us a lot of happy nights."

Foden and Cancelo were outstanding in a superb City performance, and the left-back said that he could not possibly pinpoint what is Foden's best position after he made a success of the false nine role in Belgium.

“I can’t answer that question," said Cancelo. "He has a lot of quality - he is the best young player I have ever played with, with more quality and talent, and I am sure he will give Manchester City plenty of happy times in the future, and if he keeps developing like this he will be one of the best players in the world.”
