Joao Cancelo gives Mikel Arteta clear Arsenal transfer warning with Man City admission

Arsenal have been linked with a surprise move for Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo ahead of the summer transfer window. The Portuguese international has impressed in his time with the Cityzens, but has fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola and was subsequently sent out on loan to Bayern Munich for the rest of the season.

Upon his return, the full-back is unlikely to be reintegrated into the City team, according to reports, leaving his future open. It could allow for the Gunners to make a swoop to help close the gap to their title rivals, with Edu Gaspar already disclosing that plans are being made for the summer window.

"It’s already started because you know what’s happening in the market everybody is doing stuff," the Brazilian said of Arsenal's preparation for the summer back in March. "You have to plan with people as well just to be prepared so when you go again in the summer you are very prepared."

There may be doubts over whether Cancelo will be a good fit for Arsenal though, given the recent situation at City that led to his loan exit. The defender himself may have even warned Mikel Arteta that he is a "difficult personality" when discussing his move away in January.

Discussing the exit, he said: "It was by mutual agreement. If City didn’t want to, they wouldn’t let me leave, because I had a contract. I’m very professional, I’ve always given my face for all the clubs. I have a difficult personality, yes, but I have never, at any time, disrespected teammates or coaches."

It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will make a full approach for the defender or not, but it could be a deal with plenty of risk and reward.
