Joan Collins' comments about Phillip Schofield shocked the show's hosts and viewers watching at home on Monday morning after she spoke out about the TV host's sexuality on Good Morning Britain.
Over the past few days, Phillip's decision to announce he's gay has dominated headlines after he released a statement on his Instagram and then opened up to close friend Holly Willoughby in a candid chat live on Friday's This Morning.
In the interview, Phillip thanked his wife of 27 years, and his announcement was met with an outpouring of support from peers and fans alike.
Phillip returned to TV on Sunday's Dancing on Ice, where , while judge Ashley Banjo paid tribute to him, calling him "an absolute legend".
The subject of Phillip's coming out was brought up during a chat about the Oscars on Monday's GMB and Joan Collins, speaking live in the studio from Los Angeles, shocked viewers with her comments on it.
She told host Piers Morgan she felt it was 'odd' that he needed to go public about his sexuality, saying "why does he want to tell everybody and confess?
"It seems a little odd to make such a public pronunciation."
Piers looked visibly shocked by Joan's comment and studio guest Kelly Osbourne jumped in to say: "I think what it is, is it's beautiful to see somebody finally living their truth.
"I think any time, whatever situation is when you don't feel that you can be who you really are, it's a hard place to be.
"To see him come out with his best friend and do it so lovingly on the telly... I watched it and I cried watching that interview,"
"Because you just see a weight being lifted off someone's shoulders."
Piers' co-host Susanna Reid added: "Susanna chimed in to say that Phil felt that was the right time for him to be “honest and authentic about who he is”.
“It was an incredibly moving moment,” said the host.
