Joanne Froggatt confirms Liar season 3 won't happen and this series is 'the end'

Joanne Froggatt has confirmed that there will not be a third season of Liar and that this series would serve as the ending.

The actress, who plays Laura Nielson in the gripping thriller, appeared on This Morning today as she teased what viewers could expect from the new series.

It's been two years since it last aired and began as a drama about a rape accusation which evolved into a thriller as it was revealed that Andrew Earlham had sexually assaulted 19 women in total.

Tonight, the first episode of the new series is set to air and Joanne told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that the writers of the series had intended it to be two series long but had to wait to see whether the public enjoyed it before discovering they would be able to film the second series.

"The hope was to see whether we could tell this story over 12 episodes," she said. "It's really exciting, I think they've done a terrific job."

Questioned whether there would be any more seasons, Joanne said: "No more liar, that will be the ending.

She added: "It will be very exciting."

Of course, Joanne was also probed on the rumours that there could be another Downton Abbey film after the first movie's huge success.

The film stormed the box office last autumn and opened with £5.1million.

Asked about the rumours, Joanne said: "I've also heard whisperings of a second movie."

"Nothing concrete, fingers crossed," she said, but added: "I'd love to do it again."
