Joanna Lumley dressed up as Donald Trump's ex-wife Ivana to prank him at party

Joanna Lumley once dressed up as Donald Trump 's ex-wife Ivana to prank former president at a party in London.

The Absolutely Fabulous star, 74, revealed her castmate Jennifer Saunders thought there was a striking resemblance between Joanna's character Patsy Stone and Ivana Trump.

Patsy was known for wearing her hair in a perfectly coiffed bun just like Ivana, so Jennifer wrote a line into the show declaring the booze hound fashion editor greatly admired the US socialite.

Speaking on The One Show, Joanna explained: "'In Ab Fab [sic], Jennifer wrote that Patsy admired Ivana Trump.

"She was married to Donald at the time and Patsy pretty much liked her and Jennifer thought my hair looked like hers.

"So this was something that was written in as: 'I rather admire Ivana Trump'."

Joanna later got the chance to encounter Trump in the 1990s at a party in London after his marriage to Ivana ended.

She was invited to a society bash thrown by her aristocratic pal Lady Elizabeth Anson, who thought it would be "really funny" for the actress to dress up as Ivana as she was sure to bump into Trump there.

The telly veteran went on: "I put on high heels, lashings of make-up and I put my hair up as Patsy-ish as I could possibly be.

"And I shimmied across the room towards him [Trump]. There he was, usual sort of orange, yellow.

"And I sort of went 'Hi', like that. And he looked at me in amazement."

However, Trump was there with his second wife, US TV star Marla Maples, who didn't fall for Joanna's prank.

The actress added: "His nice little wife at the time, Marla Maples, said, 'I think you look wonderful, how lovely to meet you'. So I felt a little bit deflated."

Trump was married to Marla between 1993 and 1999 before he went on to marry Melania.
