Joanna Gaines' on-set living room is decorated with the 'new neutrals' that experts champion for 2024

Joanna Gaines.

Interior designer and Fixer Upper co-host, Joanna Gaines is no stranger to using neutral color schemes. Her ability to make beige look beautiful is known across the globe, so it comes as no surprise that the HGTV star has turned her on-set living room, used to film Magnolia Table, into a calm and comforting space using none other than her favorite color palette.

The Gristmill, where the show is filmed, and constructed in the late 1800s, is this old piece of history. The bare stone walls, rustic beams, and wood flooring give this space a modern rustic feel, but it is the neutral living room color scheme that has captured our attention. Decorating with neutrals shows no signs of waiting. In fact, it is an aesthetic we predict will top color trends in 2024.

For many years we were in love with all shades of off-white, cream, and magnolia –the color choices of property developers despite being the butt of many ‘discerning’ interior designer’s jokes. However, our perceptions have changed thanks to designers, such as Joanna Gaines, and creamy whites are cool once again.

'Off-white is, of course, one of the most versatile shades in all of design,' says Jane Landino, creative head of studio at Taylor Howes. 'It instantly brightens while evoking a sense of calm and flawlessness.'

White and Beige living room ideas are so much more exciting than they sound. This room is abundant with textures, from the mixed tones of the stone wall and the different wood tones on the beams and flooring to the sand-hued sofa and the pale gray and cream pouf. There is so much to love about these versatile new neutrals.

'I love the calmness that you create when you have a neutral palette in a room, especially if you wish to replicate the quiet luxury aesthetic', says interior designer Tamsin Johnson.' But this choice doesn’t have to mean boring: you can create an interesting and exciting space by layering different tones, such as off-whites and beige, then introducing a range of caramels and even accents of gray and brown.'

Though the palette is neutral, the scheme feels rich and full of interest thanks to all the textures and patterns from the variety of surface materials and finishes.
