Lifestyle designer celebrity Joanna Gaines is extending her brand into the children's book aisle.
The Texas mother of five said recently that her next book, "We Are Gardeners," chronicles her own family's garden. It goes on sale on March 26.
Chip and Joanna Gaines have catapulted the Waco-based home improvement business they founded in 2003, Magnolia, into a retail brand with multiple home products, a television career launched on HGTV's Fixer Upper and a successful publishing business.
A new television show is in the works with Discovery Inc. The Magnolia Journal magazine, first published in 2016, reaches more than 5.5 million adults.
Both Chip and Joanna have written best-selling books. And the children's genre seems like a natural for these Wacoans, who live on a 40-acre farm.
The book covers the family's failed gardening projects and obstacles they were able to overcome, including bunnies eating everything. Gaines and her children share what they've learned. Of course, there are a few lessons such as "the hardest work yields the greatest reward."
Gaines said in a statement that she's always been inspired by the garden and has used it teach her children. The book is attractively illustrated by artist Julianna Swaney.
