Barcelona president Joan Laporta has indicated as to when his club are likely to announce the signing of Gini Wijnaldum.
The Dutchman is out of contract at Liverpool and, having failed to agree new terms, is set to leave the club when his deal expires.
A host of clubs from around Europe have been linked with the former Newcastle United man, including Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
But Wijnaldum's agent, Humphry Nijman, and legal adviser, Jan Kabalt, arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday to open talks over a three-year deal.
Those talks are believed to have progressed well and the Dutchman, according to reports from Spain, has verbally agreed a deal with the La Liga club.
Barca boss Ronald Koeman was interested in signing his Dutch compatriot last summer before Wijnaldum stayed put to help the Reds to a third-place finish in the Premier League.
And now speaking in a press conference on Friday morning, Laporta revealed that the club will announce new additions to Koeman’s side next week.
"Losing has consequences and we need to improve the team. Next week we will announce additions to the first team,” he said.
"What can't happen is what has happened in the last few years. We've lost and nothing has happened. With us, losing will have consequences."
In a statement on social media on Sunday night, Wijnaldum confirmed he was yet to sign any agreement with a new club.
“I would have loved to remain a Liverpool player for many more years, but unfortunately things went different," he posted.
"I have to start a new adventure. I didn’t sign somewhere else, everyone knows in football everything can happen.
“The situation right now is that as of July 1st, I’m not a Liverpool player anymore.
"We will see what I will do in the next couple of weeks, I will rest a little bit and then go to the national team.
“I will have a look at my story and how everything went. The fans deserve to know the story behind it.”
