Dame Joan Collins was left “shaken” after a “terrifying” fire broke out in her flat — and her husband came to her rescue with a fire extinguisher.

The couple were treated for smoke inhalation by ambulance crews as two fire engines and several Met Police vehicles attended.
Dame Joan, 85, who shared a video of her charred walls, thanked firefighters and the NHS for their help, and praised her “hero” Percy.

She said on Twitter : “THANK U from the bottom of my [heart]to the marvellous @LondonFire who attended to the terrifying fire in our flat. #threealarmfire.
“My hero Percy had already doused the flames consuming the entire wall with handheld extinguisher (#donttakethisrisk). #gratitude #firefighters.”

A second message said: “Thanks also to the @NHSEnglandLDN who took care of our smoke inhalation and comforted me.
“And the wonderful @metpoliceuk who kept the street closed and everyone safe. #gratitude.”
A source said the fire started in the guest bathroom, adding: “Percy used a fire extinguisher while Joan called 999.
“By the time the fire fighters arrived he had contained fire. They escaped unhurt but shaken.”

The firefighters discovered there is no fire escape from the roof, which they have said must be rectified.
Yesterday, the windows of the flat were left open at the front and back of the property.
Crisscrossed tape was used on some of the windows.

London Fire Brigade said: “We were called at 4.28pm and the fire was under control by 5.36pm. The cause is under investigation.”
A neighbour said: “It was quite the commotion. Joan’s a nice lady. You can see all the burnt curtains.”
