The Japan National Tourism Organization has launched a new global campaign called "Enjoy my Japan," mainly targeting travelers from North America, Europe and Australia.
JNTO produced movie clips for the campaign that show a broad range of activities, structures and cuisine at various places. Visitors to the website at www.enjoymyjapan.jp are shown a personalized video compiling some of these movie clips after answering a few questions.
There were a record 28.69 million tourists from abroad in 2017. However, 85 percent of them were from other parts of Asia. The new campaign hopes to encourage people in North America, Europe and Australia to also choose Japan as a travel destination.
An event to launch the campaign was held Tuesday in the Ginza district in Tokyo.
David Atkinson, a special adviser for the JNTO, said Japan has a wide variety of resources that could make it one of the top five tourism superpowers in the world.
At a talk held at the launch event, Mike Harris, the CEO of sports event company Canyons Ltd. in Gunma Prefecture; Natalie Emmons, an actress and singer from the United States; and Dave Spector, a producer and TV personality, talked about the great aspects of the nation. Harris said Japan's character and strength lies in its superlative nature, saying each region's forests, rivers and seas have their own stories.
Campaign events are planned in six countries -- the United States, Germany, Britain, France, Australia and Canada. More information can be found on the website.
