JKPSI recruitment scam: CBI files chargesheet against 24 accused including then BSF & CRPF officials

JAMMU: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday filed chargesheet against 24 accused including then Commandant of BSF; then ASI, constables of J&K Police; then officials of CRPF; teacher & other persons in a case related to J&K Police Sub Inspectors (JKPSI) Recruitment Scam.

According to official spokesperson, the 24 accused who were chargesheeted on Saturday included then commandant of BSF, then officials of J&K Police/CRPF, a teacher & others in the aforesaid recruitment scam "

"The accused namely Dr Karnail Singh; Ashwani Kumar; Kewal Krishan; Raman Sharma; Rakesh Kumar; Suresh Kumar Sharma; Jagdish Lal; Yatin Yadav, R/o Rewari and Anil Kumar (all are in judicial custody) whereas Ashok Kumar, then ASI; Jaisuriya Sharma; Amit Kumar Sharma; Sunil Sharma; Atul Kumar; Tarsem Lal Sharma; Pawan Kumar; Asheesh Yadav; Bajinder Singh; Surender Singh and Pradip Kumar Katiyar, an employee of Printing Press (all are in Police custody); Kashmir Singh and other accused namely Vikas Sharma[ Ashok @ Ashok Pandit and Sulinder Kumar," CBI Spokesperson added.

CBI spokesperson further said: "A case was registered on 03.08.2022 on the request of J&K Government to investigate the allegations of irregularities in written examination conducted by J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) on 27.03.2022 for recruitment of 1200 Sub-Inspectors of J&K Police."

The investigation was spread across several states involving analysis of voluminous technical data and examination of large number of witnesses.

As per official statement: "After registration of the case, searches were conducted around 77 places including in J&K, Haryana, Delhi, Bengaluru at the premises of accused & others including certain officials of JKSSB."

Around 20 persons were arrested and cash of Rs 61.79 lakh(approx) was also recovered.

"During investigation, it was found that an accused from Rewari entered into conspiracy with others," official spokesperson said, adding, "In pursuance of the said conspiracy, another accused (employee of Printing Press) stole the question paper of JKPSI examination and handed over the same to other accused a resident of same area (Rewari)."

Further, the said accused contacted other accused persons to arrange candidates for sale of question papers.

CBI said, "The other accused arranged candidates who were provided leaked question paper. In furtherance to conspiracy, candidates were taken to Karnal and provided leaked question paper in lieu of money."

"Few accused of J&K made arrangements for providing leaked question paper to candidates at Gangyal," CBI official said and added that "it was further alleged the accused distributed leaked question paper at the residence of a doctor (also an accused)."

It was also alleged that some candidates actively participated in the said conspiracy.

Further investigation is continuing to unearth larger conspiracy on other allegations levelled in the FIR, CBI official added.

Here it needs to be mentioned that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against 33 accused persons including including then Medical Officer, BSF Frontier headquarters, Paloura, then Member JKSSB, then Under Secretary, then Section Officer (both of JKSSB), Ex Official of CRPF, ASI of J&K Police, Owner of a coaching centre, Akhnoor, private company based at Bengaluru, private persons and unknown others in alleged irregularities in the examination of J&K police sub-inspector conducted by JKSSB on August 5.
