JKAP warns admin against 'eviction drive', demands Displaced Persons be given ownership rights of land

JAMMU: J&K Apni Party (JKAP) Provincial president and former minister, S Manjit Singh has warned the administration against the poor farmers in border belt of Samba District and demanded that the Displaced Persons (DPs) should be given ownership rights on the land they are holding.

J&K Congress and Azad led Democratic Azad Party (DAP) already have opposed the government directions issued to all the deputy commissioners (DCs) to ensure 100% removal of encroachments from state land including Roshni and Kahcharai by the end of current month ( i.e. Jan 31) and submit compliance report. Addressing a worker's meeting in Rangoor village in Ramgarh constituency, the Former Minister said that the eviction notices to the people is an unfortunate part of the insensitive administration.

"They first helped these farmers to cultivate their land along the border with the help of Border Security Force (BSF) and then the order has been issued to these farmers that their land will be evicted. What will they do with the land by displacing the marginalized farmers? Is it a welfare state?” he asked.

Apni Party leader Singh said, "The govt should have regularized these cultivable land and poor people who have constructed their houses in J&K to ensure that the eviction drive may not turn into an unprecedented situation."

"The Govt should release the pending financial compensation of Rs 25 lakhs in favour of the DPs which was sanctioned and released by the Govt of India." He also said that the DPs of 1965 and 1971 who were supposed to get property rights which were allotted to them after their displacement from their native villages following hostility between India and Pakistan.

Singh demanded that the DPs should be given ownership rights on the land they are holding.
