JK Rowling mocks troll who sent 'pipebomb' death threats and claims 'failed attempts to cancel her boosted sales'

JK Rowling has hit out at a troll who sent her death threats online and claimed failed attempts to 'cancel her' made her book sales go up.

The Harry Potter author took to Twitter today to call out a user who sent her a vile message online and said she's even received threats of being beaten, raped, assassinated and bombed.

The Twitter troll account sent her the message: "I wish you a very nice pipebomb in the mailbox."

The 55-year-old hit back and wrote: "To be fair, when you can’t get a woman sacked, arrested or dropped by her publisher, and cancelling her only made her book sales go up, there’s really only one place to go."

Rowling has been embroiled in a row over trans rights after taking issue with an article discussing “people who menstruate” last year.

The author later addressed the controversy in a lengthy essay in which she expressed her ‘concern’ about the “huge explosion in young women wishing to transition”.

Her views have been slammed by the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Eddie Redmayne.

After the Twitter exchange, one follower asked if the comments were in relation to her views on trans people, she said: "Yes, but now hundreds of trans activists have threatened to beat, rape, assassinate and bomb me I’ve realised that this movement poses no risk to women whatsoever."

Despite her controversial comments, the author's work still seems to be successful as her Cormoran Strike series, which is written under the penname Robert Galbraith, recently hit a whopping 100,000 audio downloads.

Last year, her golden handprints were vandalised with red paint at the tourist hotspot near the Capital's city chambers.

A trans pride flag was also planted next to the landmark.

Rowling lived in Edinburgh before her books became world famous.

Her golden handprints were engraved in 2008, when Rowling was awarded the Edinburgh Award in 2008.
