JK Rowling increases fortune as Harry Potter author's position on Scotland's rich list is revealed

Scotland's richest people have been revealed - and author JK Rowling has increased her fortune over the space of 12 months.

However, she just misses the top spot for billionaire status in 11th place worth £820 million this year.

The Sunday Times reports that Rowling's net worth increased over the pandemic by £25 million, ranking her 196th in the list of UK's richest people.

Her first children's book since the final Harry Potter novel, The Ickabog was released in instalments in 2020, free of charge and then the book was fully published in November. Rowling pledged all the royalties to charities that were affected badly by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Having openly spoken about her mental health challenges and experience with domestic abuse and has since donated £1 million to help the homeless and victims of domestic abuse.

Rowling’s Wizarding World franchise continued to grow since the final Harry Potter film but despite its success she has never officially declared herself as a billionaire due to giving profits and large donations to charity and setting up her own charity for children, Lumos.

However Rowling has faced controversy after people criticised her views on trans-rights which led to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint publicly speaking against her.

At the top of Scotland's rich list leader board was owner of Edinburgh’s Jenners building, Anders Povlsen who has increased his wealth by £1.2bn during the global pandemic and is now with £6 billion.

The danish retailer is one of the 10 billionaires on the Scottish Rich lists and owns more land in the UK than the Queen and the Church of Scotland combined.
