Harry Potter author JK Rowling took to Twitter at the weekend to hit back after a vile online troll encouraged members of the public to bomb her Edinburgh home.
The social media user shared the controversial author's home address with a picture of a pipe bomb and a guide to bomb making.
The 56-year-old posted the tweet to her millions of followers, urging those using the platform to 'be kind'. The account that shared the tweet has since been deleted as of Sunday morning.

Police have confirmed they are probing the tweet, reports the Daily Record. A spokesperson said: "We were made aware of an online threat having been made and officers are carrying out enquiries.”
She wrote: "My family’s address (covered), a pipe bomb and a picture of a bomb-making handbook. The account remains active, naturally. #BeKind ".
The vile image shows a document titled 'Improved Munitions Handbook' which has an Army stamp at the bottom. Beside the book is an image of Rowling and a pipe bomb, with a red arrow pointing towards her home address.
The author, who wrote the first instalment of the Harry Potter series at her former home in Edinburgh, has been embroiled in rows with trans activists in recent years. The author accused of being 'trans exclusionary'. She opposes the Gender Recognition Bill which would simplify the process for changing a person’s legally recognised gender.
Ms Rowling said she has had numerous death threats in the past due to her discussion on trans issues. Twitter users were quick to defend the author in the wake of the latest tweet targeting her.
A tweet from Liz Wills said: "This is insane, literally. I'm so sorry Jo. Seem to have deleted their account now. But this should be a police matter. @TwitterSupport do your job and stop this violent misogyny. #IStandWithJKRowling"
Tiffanni Skylar Rose wrote: "As a transwoman they don’t speak for all of us and I’m sorry it has happened to you."
User Ajc added: "I reported it earlier & it’s still up. Dreadful for you & family. For anyone dealing with this. How can anyone support this. Be safe"
Ms Rowling replied in a tweet thanking the person for their support.
