JJ Abrams endorses Hillary Clinton for president

The force is strong with Hillary Clinton ahead of the Iowa caucus.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams has announced his support for the Clinton campaign. Abrams becomes just one of many celebrities backing the Democratic front-runner including: Amy Poehler, RuPaul, Snoop Dogg, Ariana Grande, 50 Cent, Kanye and Kim Kardashian West, Lena Dunham, Robert DeNiro, Pharrell Williams, Beyonce, Magic Johnson and Katy Perry.

More importantly, the establishment favourite has the majority support of her party and has raised $38 million, more cash on hand than any other presidential candidate.

“I will say we are supporting Hillary,” Abrams told the Daily Beast. “We believe in her as the strongest candidate. She does have the experience and the politics. She is compassionate, and right.”

“When I look at the people who need the support that aren’t necessarily getting it, I believe that she would provide that,” he said while discussing his upcoming Hulu series 11.22.63.

“That is really the way that we have to approach how we vote: look around and ask yourself, who needs to be brought up? Who needs to be emphasized? Who needs compassion? And I find that that’s something that she’s got.”

Back in June, Abrams and his wife Kathleen McGrath each donated $500,000 to the Clinton supporting super PAC Priorities.

For what it’s worth, her main Democratic rival Bernie Sanders has a few things in his corner the Clinton campaign lacks — support of young women voters. A USA TODAY/Rock the Vote poll recently found that Sanders holds a 19-point lead over Clinton, 50 percent to 31 percent among Democratic and independent women voters 18 to 34-years-old.

The Sanders campaign has also generated it's fair share of celebrity donors including: Danny DeVito, Justin Bartha, Mark Ruffalo, Will Ferrell, Ben Foster, Ezra Miller, Jeremy Piven, Flea, Anthony Kiedis, Killer Mike, Scarface, Steve Wozniak, Cornel West,
