Jitin Prasada sets infra deadline, seeks road widening plan

LUCKNOW: To catapult Uttar Pradesh into a trillion-dollar economy, public works department minister Jitin Prasada is focusing on improving basic infrastructure, including roads and bridges. In his review meeting with PWD officials on Friday, he sought an action plan to widen roads across the state and turn arterial roads into at least two lanes over next five years for seamless movement.

The meeting was virtually attended by minister of state, Brijesh Singh, divisional chief engineer, superintending engineer and executive engineers with principal secretary, principal engineers and chief engineers at the PWD headquarters.

The cabinet minister said, “All pontoon bridges in the state should be converted into concrete or steel-based structures in a phased manner. Also, key roads must be widened to at least two lanes in next five years, for which an action plan should be hammered out soon.

Emphasis should be given on developing bypasses in major towns, where vehicular traffic is heavy.”

“Inter-state and block headquarters roads must be completed within his financial year and an effective monitoring system with target-oriented action plan should be prepared to complete pending projects by January 2024. Further, the bridge corporation must prepare proposals for construction of railway overbridges at level crossings, where traffic is heavy,” the minister told engineers of his department.

He also told PWD officials to include all proposals and instructions given by various public representatives (MLAs/MPs) in the infrastructure development action plans of districts.
