PANCHKULA: Days after Panchkula Municipal Corporation issued notices to various telecom service companies for recovery of tower fee for installation of mobile towers, one of the firms, Jio deposited Rs 1.95 crore pending mobile tower fee with the MC, said mayor Kulbhushan Goyal. He also said rent of 290 towers by various companies is pending.
Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal said this campaign started to strengthen the financial position of the MC has started to pay off. He said he has been constantly pressurising officials to recover dues from companies and institutions who are supposed to pay property tax, tower fees and other amounts.
Kulbhushan Goyal said, “For the last several years, towers were installed on municipal land by various tower companies in the city, but the fees to be paid in lieu thereof were not paid. We have given clear instructions by taking a meeting of all the officers, including municipal commissioner, joint commissioner that the connections of tower companies should be disconnected immediately. This agenda was also passed in the House meeting after which notices were issued and now Jio has paid pending dues.”
Recently, notices were given by the Municipal Corporation to tower companies to deposit the fees. After this, Rs 1.95 was deposited by Jio to the Municipal Corporation, he said.
