Jimmy Savile mannequin falls from Edward Colston's plinth

Mystery surrounding what happened to a Jimmy Savile mannequin which was placed on Edward Colston's plinth has partly been solved.

It is not known who put the notorious paedophile figure on the city centre stand, but a short video clip reveals the depiction fell off rather than being pulled down.

The mannequin was dressed in a blond wig, a neon tracksuit and a T-shirt which read “If Carlsberg did rapists”.

Underneath, a sign stated: “None of them stopped me, and your licence paid for it.

Savile had a long career in the BBC starring in shows including Top of the Pops and Jim’ll Fix It.

After his death in 2011, hundreds of allegations of child sexual abuse were made against him, covering a period of 50 years.

The plinth, in Bristol's city centre, has stood empty since the Grade II-listed statue of Colston was toppled by campaigners at the end of a Black Lives Matter protest, on June 7.

It was dumped in the Floating Harbour before council officials hauled it out days later. The bronze statue is set to be displayed in a museum.
