Jimmy Kimmel

On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host discussed the ongoing Republican chaos that has seen the house endure 16 days without a speaker.

It’s meant that nothing can get done, which Kimmel joked was “even less than the usual nothing can get done”.

New candidate Jim Jordan has been unable to garner enough votes. “This would be a very embarrassing situation if these far-right Republicans were capable of being embarrassed,” he said.

While the problems are clearly coming from one side, key Republicans have tried to blame the problem on the Democrats. “For a group of people who tell you the Democrats don’t know what they’re doing, they sure do give Democrats a lot of credit for what they’re doing,” he said.

Kimmel said that Republicans are “reaching across the aisle to grab each other by the throats right now” with threats being made to those who won’t vote for Jordan.

This week has also seen Mitt Romney reveal that he tried to engineer a unity ticket with Ted Cruz in 2016 to fight Donald Trump. “The only thing Americans agree upon as a unit is that Ted Cruz sucks,” Kimmel joked. He also said that it was “like trying to team up with chlamydia to fight Aids”.

He moved on to Trump’s former lawyer Sidney Powell, “this weird human lady” who has pleaded guilty to election interference after a string of offences including hiring people to barge into a voting location, something Kimmel called “not very lawyerly”.

Her deal means she will be cooperating to provide information on Trump. “Oh man the chicken McNuggets are coming home to roost,” he joked.

This week also saw Joe Biden’s campaign join Trump-backed site Truth Social and in the space of a few days, gain more followers than the former president’s campaign. “Luckily he doesn’t really care about silly things like followers or crowd size,” he said.

Seth Meyers

On Late Night, Seth Meyers said he found it “still shocking” to refer to the former president as being involved in four criminal cases.

One of which has seen a development with the aforementioned Powell pleading guilty after making “unhinged claims” about voter subversion.

“What really throws me off though is how she says all of those really crazy things in such a flat tone,” Meyers said while playing back old footage. “At least Rudy has the decency to scream when he’s being a fucking nutball.”

He also replayed the clip of Powell promising to “release the Kraken” in reference to all of the incriminating information she allegedly had. “She did release the Kraken but I’m afraid the Kraken was also indicted,” Meyers said.

He mentioned that she would be cooperating but then asked: “How much cooperation can a person that insane really provide?”

He moved on to the speaker-less chaos and how it’s been causing Republicans to turn on each other. “I’m not sure I’ve ever been as mean to Republicans as Republicans are currently being to themselves,” he said.

Meyers played footage from Fox & Friends which saw the host Brian Kilmeade refer to the party as “a carnival of idiots” which he joked was the “original title for Fox & Friends”.
