Jimmy Kimmel aims dig at 'racist' Trump in coronavirus monologue

Jimmy Kimmel has criticised US President Donald Trump, calling him "racist", in a new, truncated episode of his late night talk show, recorded while practising social distancing in his own home.

The comedian focused on a tweet from Trump which read: "It is very important that we totally protect our Asian American community in the United States, and all around the world."

"They are amazing, and the spreading of the Virus is NOT their fault in any way shape or form", the post continued. "They are working closely with us to get rid of it."

Kimmel reads the tweet aloud in apparent bemusement, saying: "They are working closely with us? They are us! It's right there in the name."

"Asian Americans. It's the second word! He somehow manages to be racist while telling other people not to be racist."

In the nearly 17-minute-long recorded monologue, Kimmel also aimed a dig at coronavirus-positive senator Rand Paul for not self-isolating while awaiting testing for the virus, and another at Harvey Weinstein.

"I thought it might be nice to hear some good news," said Kimmel, referring to Weinstein's coronavirus diagnosis, which the disgraced Hollywood producer received while incarcerated for rape and sexual assault.
