"We extend our deepest sympathies to Jimmy's family and friends at this sad time.

"Rest in peace, Jimmy."

Jimmy Greaves makes his way on to the pitch at half time to collect his 1966 World Cup winners medal at an event in 2009 (PA)

Greaves is currently England's fourth highest goalscorer, with 44 goals and is hailed as the highest scorer in the country's top-flight league - knocking in 357 before the advent of the Premier League.

He also played for Chelsea and had stints at West Ham, Barnet and even AC Milan.

He had suffered a stroke in 2015, which left his speech limited and meant he needed care four times a day.

He leaves behind wife Irene, four children Lynn, Mitzi, Danny and Andrew along with 10 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
