Jimmy Garoppolo reacts to Tom Brady-49ers offseason rumors

Tom Brady in a San Francisco 49ers uniform? Heading into the offseason, it was a possibility.

Current San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is signed through the 2022 season. However, adding Brady was discussed by San Francisco 49ers management. It is certainly interesting to think that general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan gave this some thought.

Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers are coming off a season that saw them tally a Super Bowl appearance. They figure to be favorites heading into 2020, as they look to finish the job this time around.

Despite the rumors of Brady coming to San Francisco, Garopolo understood where the organization was coming from.

“It kind of comes with the territory,” he said recently to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows. “It comes with the job.”

Garoppolo added: “The one thing I can say about the whole situation was Kyle and John were very honest with me the whole time. That’s their job — to put the best team together possible and you’ve got to respect that. So as long as the honesty and truthfulness is there, I respect those guys, I love those guys. And it’s going to be a fun year this year.”

The 28 year-old quarterback is looking to improve upon a 2018 season that saw him record almost 4,000 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. One has to wonder how things would have looked if Brady ended up signing with his favorite childhood team.
