Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink reveals the Chelsea area Frank Lampard must improve after Bohemians draw

Chelsea legend Jimmy Flloyd Hasselbaink believes that Frank Lampard would have learned a lot about his new player's in the club's pre-season draw with Irish side Bohemians last night.

The game was the Blues' first under their new boss, with both young players and them left out in the cold under former head coach Maurizio Sarri looking to make a good impression.

Lampard put out two different lineups for the first and second half of the game, and it was all going well for Chelsea when they took an eighth minute lead through Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi, but the evening ended in disappointment when a late equaliser from Eric Molloy meant that the game finished all square.

While results are not the be all and end all during pre-season, the former Chelsea striker highlighted areas that Lampard will need to improve should they be successful in the Premier League this season.

"They lost the ball way too easy," he said on the club's official coverage of the match.

"Players were having too many touches, sometimes seven, eight touches and it slows the game down.

"It will be a lesson for Frank to see players and in a way it will make his mind up.

“[Moving the ball fast] is his idea of how he wants to play the game.

“The majority of successful teams do move the ball quickly.

“We saw today, especially in the second half, certain players were dwelling a little bit too much on the ball.

“They didn’t have a solution before they had the ball."

However, the former Blue did admit that the lack of urgency both on and off the ball could have been due to some rustiness remaining from the summer.

Although he insisted that the new boss has some big decisions to make.

"It might be that it’s pre-season, it might be that they’re not fit yet and it will come," he added.

"For some it might be a little too much.

"That is for Frank to figure out, who those players are and who he will go further with.

"That’s why those games are so important.”
