Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink explains what was wrong with Patrick Bamford's performance against Fulham

Former Leeds United striker Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink has stated that Patrick Bamford did not perform as expected against Fulham despite his goal.

The striker opened the scoring in the first period but the opening 45 minutes saw Fulham on the front foot, which led Bielsa to call for a change at the break.

As a result, Bamford was taken off and Pablo Hernandez, his replacement, starred - with Hasselbaink then stating that Bamford didn't perform to expectations.

“He didn’t play well, he didn’t play his normal self. It’s a great goal but normally he’s good holding the ball up and it doesn’t bounce off him,” he told Sky Sports.

“After the goal, you’d think he would have grown into the game. He didn’t do the things well that he normally does and I think that’s why the manager has taken him off but still it’s a big decision.

“90% of the managers would give him the benefit of the doubt because he has scored, they would leave him for at least another 10 or 15 minutes on the pitch but not with this manager.

“This manager wants certain things in a certain way, he had to bring in Hernandez, he had to get a foothold into the game and they did that. Hernandez was the difference with everything and he makes them play, he ticks all the boxes.”
