Jimmy Fallon spoofs Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise with 'Chicago Melon'

April 14--"Chicago Melon" would be the fifth installment in Dick Wolf's Chicago-set franchise, which includes "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D.," if Jimmy Fallon had his way.

Last week, more than 800,000 Facebook users tuned in to watch Buzzfeed employees try to make a watermelon explode with rubber bands.

"That's a bigger audience than a lot of TV shows right now, and some people are saying that that stuff might be the future of television," Fallon said during Wednesday's episode of "The Tonight Show." "Well, NBC noticed and they have already started shooting a drama that focuses on exploding watermelons."

Fallon then played a "Chicago Melon" clip of a watermelon being interrogated until (spoiler alert) it explodes.

Filming of "Chicago Justice," the fourth installment in the Chicago-set series, recently began in Chicago. The cast is expected to be introduced in a "Chicago P.D." episode scheduled to air May 11.
