Jimmy Fallon had Tiger Woods, golfers sneak goofy phrases into their interviews

Jimmy Fallon is at it again. About a month ago during NBA All-Star weekend, the host of The Tonight Show got Steph Curry to drop weird words and phrases into his interview, and it was hilarious in large part because of Curry’s commitment to the task.

Now, Fallon moved onto the PGA Tour and had multiple golfers sneak ridiculous phrases into their answers to questions at The Players Championship this week. And it did not disappoint, especially because he managed to get Tiger Woods to say, “Tony Danza was in the stands-a” at one point.

To the players’ credit — like Curry — they slide these phrases in somewhat seamlessly, aside from the fact that they’re saying things totally out of character.

Without knowing about Fallon’s antics, reporters and people listening to the interviews were probably wondering if these golfers were feeling OK, considering Jason Day said winning the tournament would “be like winning the 1992 Grammy Awards.”

Here’s an expanded look at what these guys were talking about and what some of the questions were that allowed them to casually drop these weird phrases into their answers, via ASAP Sports:

Q. Curious if you’ve made any scouting trips to Augusta this year, and what do you think about the new No. 5?
ADAM SCOTT: I haven’t actually. I was planning on going last week, but my wife and I went to a Reba McEntire concert, so that was a bit random. Anyway…

BROOKS KOEPKA: Yeah, it feels nice to be here. Any time you’re at THE PLAYERS it’s always fun. Tough golf course, it’s going to be playing a lot different than it has been in years past and just got to get out there and swing and ding it.

JUSTIN THOMAS: I guess just going to go out there and try to swing it and ding it, if you will.

Q. Do you remember any kind of celebration that night or anything (after winning the 2009 Players Championship)?
HENRIK STENSON: A speeding ticket on the way home. That was kind of sweet as toffee, hot as coffee that one.

JUSTIN ROSE: And Fooch (his caddie who had heart surgery recently) I know is watching back at home, so take care Teddy Bear. He’s texted me actually he’s going to be watching the press conference, so I embarrassed him with that one.

FRANCESCO MOLINARI: Yeah, well, basically we had to drive up to here to Sawgrass, so got in the car with my caddie pretty much straightaway after the end of the tournament and then we got here and got some nice pizza-pizza.
