Jimmy Dunne joins QPR from Burnley on three-year deal

Jimmy Dunne has joined QPR from Burnley for an undisclosed fee after today agreeing a three-year contract.

The Championship club also has the option of extending the deal for a further year.

Dundalk native Dunne, 23, spent five years at Burnley where he made seven appearances.

But he also had a run of loan spells with Barrow, Accrington Stanley, Hearts, Sunderland and Fleetwood Town.

“I am really excited,” said centre-back Dunne who has featured in two extended Republic of Ireland squads without being capped.

“It’s a massive step for me. With the push that the lads had during the second half of last season it would be nice to be part of something like that this season.”

Dunne continued: “The loan spells were really good for me but where I’m at now I believe it’s important to go on a journey with someone.

“I really want to come here and be part of the club. From the outside looking in, this looks like a really good environment to be part of.

“This league is going to test me and there is a lot of work for me to do.”

QPR boss Mark Warburton is delighted to get Dunne’s deal over the line and said: “Jimmy is a very talented player.

“He can play anywhere across the back three – left, right or centre – and that gives us great flexibility.

“He has great physicality, he looks after the ball well and plays with a real passion and energy.”
