Jimmy Carr faces furious backlash over vile jibe about dwarfs during stand-up tour

Comedian Jimmy Carr is facing a furious backlash over a tasteless jibe about dwarfs.

Channel 4 bosses were urged to sack the 8 Out of 10 Cats host after he made the sick quip during his stand-up tour.

Charity Little People UK, co-founded by Star Wars actor Warwick Davis, complained to Carr after being contacted by people upset about the joke.

It said: “We appreciate comedy is a matter of personal opinion, but in 2019 people with dwarfism should not have to live with the consequences of being the subject of someone else’s humour.

“Such comments are incredibly detrimental to their wellbeing.

“To potentially hear someone repeat such a comment can affect them for their entire life.”

The outrage came after Carr asked during his stand-up tour, Terribly Funny: “Is a dwarf an abortion that made it?”

Actor Erik Bourne from Crawley, West Sussex, said: “He’s never been abused in the street or made to feel so small he didn’t exist. I have – it’s almost a daily occurrence.

Channel 4 should sack him. Only then will other comedians realise we’re not just here to be made fun of.”

Eugene Grant, who works with the Restricted Growth Association, said: “He doesn’t have to live with the pain a joke like this causes, the ridicule it fosters, the abuse it encourages. We do.”

A spokesman for Carr was contacted for comment.
