Jimmy Butler: 'Thibs is still Thibs and will always be Thibs'

RIO DE JANEIRO _ If you've heard that the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team is staying on a giant, luxury cruise ship and picture a party scene from HBO's "Ballers," Jimmy Butler says you'd be disappointed.

"It's just a hotel that floats," the Bulls forward said Thursday. "Everyone has a room, we have a meeting room, a dining hall. It's not just us. There are other people on there."

The U.S. women's basketball team is there, as well. Diana Taurasi dubbed the 196-cabin Silver Cloud the "boatel."

Butler stressed that he's not here for fun and games _ OK, maybe just games.

Asked about his role on a team that also has wings Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, DeMar DeRozan, Klay Thompson and Paul George, Butler replied: "No feel for that. We all know that guys will play more than others, depending on how the night is going for them. We just want to win."

The Olympic quest starts Saturday in a preliminary game against China.

Butler said he hopes to witness the 100-meter dash while he's in Rio but would not threaten Usain Bolt's record: "Have you seen me run up and down the basketball court? I'm not the fastest guy."

And asked if he still gets yelled at by Tom Thibodeau, an assistant coach for Team USA, Butler replied: "He still has something to say every once in a while, which is good. Let's me know Thibs is still Thibs and will always be Thibs. Still defensive-minded and he knows his stuff. On the way (to the news conference), he was studying film."
