Jimmy Bracken, 90, sings for Daingean GAA players as they complete turf-a-thon

Members of an Offaly GAA club were serenaded as they completed their turf-a-thon to provide turf for those in need during coronavirus restrictions.

Daingean GAA club have had members doing shopping runs and pharmacy trips for those staying at home as GAA clubs around the country rally to support their communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

For the last four weeks they have turned, footed, heaped and drawn turf.

With the turf-a-thon wrapping up, 90-year-old Jimmy Bracken treated the volunteers to a rendition of The Turfman from Ardee.

A video of the touching moment was posted to the club's Facebook page, with the caption saying: "The Daingean GAA volunteers finishing their final plot of the turf-a-thon in Mountlucas were treated to a song by 90 year old Jimmy Bracken.

"A cracking song from Jimmy was just the tonic the volunteers needed after 4 long weekends on the bog.

"Thanks to all our volunteers who have earned a well deserved break. Now to foot our own turf!!!!"
