Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher says the school will most likely reschedule its previously canceled game against Louisiana Monroe following Saturday's win against Syracuse at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Fisher deferred the final word to FSU's athletics director Stan Wilcox, who said an announcement on the game will come this week.
FSU would likely host ULM on Dec. 2 at a time to be determined by the television network carrying the contest. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 9 and canceled because of Hurricane Irma.
"(We) most likely will. We'll have to talk to Stan, we'll see (and) make those decisions," Fisher said after the 27-24 win over Syracuse, which helped FSU improve to 3-5 this season.
More important, the extra game gives the Seminoles another opportunity to reach bowl eligibility this season.
FSU would need at least three wins in its final four games (at Clemson, versus Delaware State, at Florida and versus ULM) to have six wins for eligibility. The Seminoles could also accept a bowl game invite with five wins and higher APR scores higher than other five-win teams.
If Florida State reaches a bowl game, it would extend the nation's longest bowl streak to 36 years. It's an accomplishment the Seminoles do not want to relinquish.
Fisher wants his players to keep "sawing wood" in practice instead of thinking about the potential of not reaching a bowl game for the first time since 1981.
"You got that responsibility in the back of your mind, 40 years of winning, 35 bowl games. That's the burden you came here with," Fisher said bringing up FSU's storied history. "Now carry it and play your tail off in practice and the games."
The Seminoles are on track to play 11th consecutive games after Irma altered the ULM game and forced FSU and Miami to reschedule their game originally set for Sept. 16 to the mutual bye week of Oct. 7.
