Jimbo Fisher: FSU football is 'in great shape'

DESTIN, Fla. _ Ask Florida State fans about last year's 5-7 disappointment, and some of the blame will fall on former coach Jimbo Fisher.

His star-studded 2015 recruiting class was a flop. The first recruiting class Willie Taggart inherited was in shambles. The program's culture was rotting.

Fisher doesn't see it that way.

"I think it's in great shape," the second-year Texas A&M coach said Wednesday during the SEC's spring meetings at the Hilton Sandestin. "As far as having very good players. They had draft picks, first-round picks. They've got good players this year. I see they're picked to go to another good bowl game there."

If that happens, it will restart the Seminoles' bowl streak at one after its NCAA-record run ended last year. Even if FSU fans remain unhappy with Fisher and how he left, with one game left in a bad season, Fisher didn't have anything negative to say about his former program Wednesday.

"I loved my time at Florida State," Fisher said. "It was an outstanding place."
