Jim McGuinness's poignant tribute after Donegal v Mayo 2012 All-Ireland final

Donegal's 2012 All-Ireland triumph is being remembered this weekend with a full repeat of the match being shown on TG4's All-Ireland Gold.

Emotions ran high as Jim McGuinness's men won their first title in 20 years against a Mayo side looking to end their long barren run without the Sam Maguire.

The novel final pairing served up a classic and Donegal ran out 2-11 to 0-13 winners, with Colm McFadden and Michael Murphy getting their goals.

The occasion was emotional in itself as Donegal secured just the county's second ever All-Ireland win - but emotions that day at Croke Park were heightened by the tragic death of Andrew Duffy.

The 24-year-old Donegal fan and Termon clubman tragically drowned in Dublin's Royal Canal after watching his county's semi-final win over Cork.

When McGuinness and the team brought the cup to Duffy's hometown of Termon shortly after their All-Ireland success, he paid a poignant tribute.

At the time, Donegal Daily reported McGuinness saying: "I can't let today pass without mentioning and thinking of young Andrew Duffy from this club.

"He went to Croke Park to support the team like thousands and thousands of others and unfortunately didn't come home.

"It's a very, very sad moment for everyone. It was something that we were all thinking of on the bus today and I know that you are all thinking of him yourselves.

"I'm glad we were able to do himself proud and I'm happy that we got to the final and we were able to bring the cup back in his memory."
