Jim McGuinness backed for Donegal GAA return after Charlotte Independent sacking

Jim McGuinness has already been heavily backed to return to GAA management after his Charlotte Independent sacking.

The 2012 All-Ireland winning mastermind's venture in the football world was dealt a major blow today after he was let go from the American club who play in the USL Eastern Conference.

The former Donegal GAA boss recorded just one win in 14 games. They played out a 0-0 draw against Swope Park Rangers in his final game last weekend and last won a league match in April.

But after news of his departure broke, punters were quick to wager that he'll be back at the helm of an inter-county gaelic football team by the 2020 championship - with odds as low as 6/4 being offered.

A return to Donegal, despite Declan Bonner's exploits so far this summer, is just 7/2 while McGuinness could well make the move to hurling as Boylesports offer odds of 9/2.

Away from the pitch, McGuinness is fancied at 15/2 to appear on RTE flagship Dancing With The Stars.

Of the more unlikely wagers, McGuinness is 10/1 to be the next Derry City manager and 50/1 to manage Celtic next - he's 100/1 to replace Mick McCarthy as Ireland boss.

Lawrence Lyons, Spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “It’s clear Jimmy wasn’t winning many matches out in the States but there’s no doubt he’ll still be hot property when he returns home.

"We’re not taking any chances at 6/4 that one county will snap up his services before next season’s Championship and it’s 7/2 that his next project is a return to the Donegal hotseat.”
