Jim Jefferies 'died for 20 seconds' after heart attack while playing golf

Former Hearts boss Jim Jefferies has confirmed he “died for 20 seconds” in an ambulance” after suffering a heart attack playing golf.

The man who led the Tynecastle club to Scottish Cup glory in 1998 admitted yesterday he owes his life to the paramedics who brought him back.

Jim, 68, said: “I died for 20 seconds but I was in the right place because these people knew what to do and they were absolutely brilliant as I blacked out.

“I would like to say how grateful I am to the paramedics and all the people in the cath lab at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and all the wonderful medical staff.

“There was a moment when I thought to myself, ‘I hope I’m going to survive this’, but I always had confidence in the paramedics.”

Jim’s long-time football colleague Billy Brown told the Record on Wednesday how he got a “mighty shock” when he heard his pal had collapsed.

The incident happened at Gullane Golf Course in East Lothian.

Jim, who also worked at Kilmarnock and Dunfermline, is sporting director at League Two side Edinburgh City.
