CHICAGO _ Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh turned a few heads this week when he said on a podcast that "controversy" follows former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer everywhere he goes.
On Friday, during Harbaugh's time at the microphone for Big Ten media days, he was asked if there was any context that needed to be added to that comment.
He said there wasn't. He also said his statement isn't exactly breaking news.
"No context you should know about. I don't think it was anything that was anything new or a bombshell," Harbaugh said. "It's things that many of you have an understanding of or have written about."
During an interview with The Athletic's Tim Kawakami, Harbaugh was asked for his thoughts on Meyer's retirement from coaching. His answer: "Urban Meyer's had a winning record. A really phenomenal record everywhere he's been. But also, controversy follows everywhere he's been."
Meyer was suspended for the first three games of the 2018 season as Ohio State investigated domestic violence allegations against a former Buckeye assistant coach. Following the season, which included Meyer's fourth straight win over Harbaugh (he ended his tenure 4-0 against him), Meyer stepped down and Ohio State promoted assistant coach Ryan Day.
Michigan and Ohio State will play at Michigan Stadium on Nov. 30.
