Jim Goodwin tipped to take over as St Mirren manager

Jim Goodwin is in line to replace Oran Kearney as St Mirren boss.

Alloa have granted permission for Goodwin to hold negotiations with the Paisley club, where the Waterford man spent five years as a player.

If a deal is agreed, Goodwin will become the Scottish Premiership outfit's 10th manager in nine years, replacing Kearney, who had nine months in the job.

Goodwin, 37, recently had talks with Dundee after keeping the Alloa part-timers in the Scottish Championship last term.

The Irish midfielder was capped one time for the Republic of Ireland, playing in a 2002 friendly against Finland in Helsinki.

He joined St. Mirren as a player in 2011 and captained the side, but left for Alloa Athletic in 2016.
