Jim Goodwin thanks St Mirren supporters for strong pre-Christmas showing at St Johnstone

Jim Goodwin thanked St Mirren ’s travelling support for dipping into their pockets to support their team in their last away game of the decade.

Despite the festive season being one of the most expensive, more than 750 Buddies piled into McDiarmid Park in Perth to cheer on their side.

And while there wasn’t much payback on the pitch as the two Saints sides laboured to a goalless draw, Goodwin paid tribute to them for supporting the team in such great numbers on Saturday and throughout the campaign so far.

He told Express Sport: “The fans were superb, they have been great with us away from home.

“The expense involved at this time of year is significant and we don’t take it for granted.

“The players feed off that and it encourages them to put in good performances.

“I think a point was a fair result for both teams on the balance of how the game went.

“We have put a few decent results together now and it was important to do that because of the teams we were playing.

“A point and a clean sheet on the road is positive and I think we are in a good place at the moment.

“Hopefully we can carry that into the last two games before the winter break.

“I’d love to get a win going into the second half of the season - hopefully we can catch Celtic on the hop.”
