Jim Goodwin reveals he's 'gutted' for former teammate Kenny McLean after cruel Euro injury blow

Former St Mirren star Kenny McLean has cruelly been ruled out of the upcoming European Championships.

The ex-Buddie suffered a knee ligament injury in Norwich City’s last game of the season against Barnsley.

That means the Scotland midfielder will miss out on the Euros next month, with St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin revealing he is gutted for his former teammate.

Goodwin said: “He has had a great season for Norwich getting back to the Premier League and has played his part in Scotland’s success.

"He was very brave stepping up to take a penalty in Serbia.

“Kenny is a product of the St Mirren academy and we always keep on the eye on them.

“We are desperate for them all to do well, so we are gutted for Kenny and I am sure Steve Clarke will be devastated too.

“Kenny is a key part of that Scotland squad and I will get in touch with him over the next few days.

”I hope he has a speedy recovery and he will be in great hands at Norwich with his rehab.

"Mentally, Kenny is a strong character and he will know what he needs to do to get back ready for the start of the season.

"We wish him well."
