Jim Goodwin praises St Mirren performance and opens up on Jake Doyle-Hayes and Jamie McGrath injuries

Jim Goodwin fears St Mirren’s injury curse has struck again after star man Jake Doyle-Hayes left Pittodrie on crutches.

After losing key player Jamie McGrath to a shoulder injury against Celtic on Wednesday night, fellow midfielder Doyle-Hayes picked up a foot knock against Aberdeen that forced him off injured at half-time.

Goodwin fears the Buddies just can’t catch a break when it comes to their growing treatment table list, but was delighted his side came away from a breezy affair with Aberdeen with a point.

He also revealed McGrath may be asked to play through the pain barrier to try and help the club seal a top six spot before the split next month.

He said: “We have had one thing after another with Brophy’s serious injury, Dennis’ serious injury and McGrath now needing shoulder surgery.

“Jake’s one doesn’t look good at all. He went up for a header and landed awkwardly and he has left on crutches.

“It looks to be a problem with his heel. Worse case scenario it could be a stress fracture and that would suggest it will be a serious one.

“McGrath dislocated his shoulder. We got the results back from that on Friday and we will sit down with him to see if there is a possibility we can maybe manage that until the end of the season.

“It probably will need surgery, but we will try and hold it off for the next few weeks.

“It would be great to secure that top six in the next month and then we could go and get Jamie operated on.

“I’m happy with a point as this is a difficult venue to come to.

"It was a good response after Wednesday when I was very disappointed.

“It was a great reaction as I thought it was a very professional performance throughout the team in tough conditions.”
