Jim Goodwin plays Aberdeen victory over Hibs cool as he provides VAR verdict after scoreline 'flatters' Dons

Jim Goodwin was left delighted that VAR fell the way of his Aberdeen side in their impressive 4-1 win over Hibs - but he knows the game itself didn't go all their own way.

His Dons side were up against it in the first half before referee David Munro looked to VAR to first overturn as Luis Lopes offside, and handing the forward a penalty after a collision with David Marshall in the box. Bojan Miovski scored the first of his brace at the second attempt and Yilber Ramadani plus Leighton Clarkson goals made sure Mykola Kukharevych's effort was only a mere consolation.

Counterpart Lee Johnson wasn't happy with the penalty Aberdeen were given but Goodwin says the Premiership's will get more things right than wrong, with his team sat in third. He explained: "VAR’s been in place all over the world for years and the main aim is to get the big calls right more often than not.

“My concern about the first one was that I thought Duk was offside. I did feel he got there first and that Marshall went to ground and there must have been contact. Thankfully it went for us, there’ll be occasions when it’ll go against us.

“I know it’ll be the talking point. The length of time it takes to get to a decision, but I don’t mind how long it takes as long as it gets to the right decision."

Last time out between the sides, Hibs ran out 3-1 winners, and Goodwin was pleased to offer some payback against a rival in the race for Europe.

He added: "The game panned out how I’d expected in terms of territory. I didn’t feel there was a great deal between the teams and I always felt it would be tight.

“I’m not going to gloat and suggest we gave Hibs a going-over because we didn’t. 4-1 flatters us a bit. I did feel the first goal was going to be huge and it’s probably going to be a big talking point, but the decision has gone in our favour.

“It was really important that we got the three points back of Hibs that they got at Easter Road. For us to beat Hearts and Hibs at home the way we have is brilliant.”
