Jim Goodwin opens up on Alex Jabukiak decision after striker opts to join Dundee

Former St Mirren striker Alex Jakubiak has pulled off a surprise switch to Championship side Dundee.

The ex-Watford forward spent the second half of last season on loan in Paisley, forming a promising partnership with hitman Jon Obika.

Jim Goodwin revealed he spoke to Jakubiak over the close season to sound him out about a permanent switch to the Buddies following his release from Watford.

He was put off a deal by the 23-year-old’s wage demands, but the striker has now joined Dundee on a two-year deal.

Speaking to Go Radio, Goodwin said: “Alex did great for me when he came in on loan. Technically, he’s a very good player and he's a really good boy to work with.

“He built up a half-decent relationship with Obika but I feel at the moment within the squad we’ve got decent players that can play that number 10 role.

"It’s been well documented that last year we didn’t score enough goals.

"If I’m bringing in a striker I need to be guaranteed they’re going to give me at least a dozen to maybe 20 goals this season.

“Jon Obika I think this season will get between ten and 15 and I need someone else to come in and do the same.

"Alex’s record in senior football, I didn’t think that was the kind of player we needed to bring to the club considering what we’ve already got here.”
