Jim Goodwin insists defenders get it 'too easy' after Eamonn Brophy's disallowed Dundee United goal

Jim Goodwin insists defenders have it too easy these days after Eamonn Brophy's potential winner against Dundee United was controversially disallowed.

St Mirren looked to have taken the lead in the second half when the former Killie star slammed home after Curtis Main outmuscled Charlie Mulgrew in the box.

Referee Colin Steven chalked the goal off, leaving the Saints boss and the home fans livid.

Goodwin said: “I felt we had a decent goal chopped off. There was a bit of grappling at the back stick with Main and the United defender but I’m not convinced it was a foul.

"We have to remember that it’s a contact sport at the end of the day and there is going to be contact. I’m not so sure you would get a penalty the other way.

"It’s too easy nowadays to chalk goals off and that’s another one we’ve had wrongly disallowed.

"There was one at Parkhead where Main was a few yards onside and another one today, which is disappointing.

"I think there's too many occasions when defenders get let off the hook awfully easy now.

"You see them going down under the slightest touch, falling down and getting a foul too easily.

"For me that goal should have stood. It's those fine margins we keep talking about.

"We had three great chances against St Johnstone in the first half and should have been a couple of goals in front.

"Thankfully it didn't come back to haunt us then or today, but that's the difference between getting three points or just one."
